Lisa's blog
23 March 2010
It has taken me a long time to write a blog, and I guess this is symptomatic of the time that we are all in. There seems to be very little time to reflect as we all try to deal with structural design and change, budget reductions and the day to day work of delivering services to those that need them. Arguably, it is in times like this that we really need to reflect most.
Getting perspective for me though is easily done. It comes when I visit places like Greenacre Primary School and see the explosions of creativity on the wall and the calm patience of staff as they cradle a highly distressed pupil until he can get his thoughts in order again. It comes when I get the real buzz of walking into the team meeting for the Eastern Pupil Referral Unit to congratulate them on their outstanding Ofsted rating, and when I have a chance chat with some parent volunteers at Barnham Broom Primary who have just arrived as I am leaving to set up the after school activities they run every day.
I am full of admiration for the way in which most people remain undiverted, by organisational and administrative change and uncertainty, from their day to day work with children and their families in schools, early years settings and communities. Long may it continue.
Meanwhile - the daffodils are starting to show and spring is definitely in the air. This week I am going to see Alison Steadman in an Alan Bennett play at the Theatre Royal. I'm looking forward to it, I need a good laugh.
